Social Work program at New Horizons
New Horizons social works program stimulates the development of flexible, independent, and confident individuals who have solid moral values and a critical conscious. Therefore, we expect our students to comply with our honor code and the guide for parents and students. In order to achieve these goals, we engage children in relevant and meaningful learning experiences.
One of the school’s main goals is to offer our students an integral education, in which the learning of values, the importance of serving others, and the development of a healthy lifestyle, are as important as academic excellence. We have developed a communitarian and social work program, which promotes the sense of social responsibility.
The school promotes lifelong social skills and moral values through all subjects, community service, and citizenship programs. Programs like the Values Program, Community Outreach Program, Personal Safety Program, Best Buddies, ESTRELLAS, and Mini-ESTRELLAS help New Horizons students experience a sense of trust as well as an awareness and development of values promoted in our Guiding Statements (i.e., respect, responsibility, fairness, perseverance, and love). In addition, parents and guardians are encouraged to reinforce discipline and moral values in order to educate better citizens and contribute with the school objectives.
Community service is an integral part of the school’ s curriculum and students participate throughout the school year in community outreach initiatives, cooperating with organizations and communities, in need; thus developing solidarity, leadership, social responsibility, and respect, among other values. Students raise funds through activities like mini bazaars, food and items sales, and many others.
